NAMAZU

What is this? REAL art? Not sketches?

Although, it is another entry for bi-weekly contest. So I guesss that makes it count less XD
All I ever seem to upload thse days are sketches, and entries for these contests.

Also, I'm technically not allowed to enter the contest. But I'd figure I'd do what *Mythka does, and put in my entry, but not be considered for voting, if that makes sense.

So, anyways, this is the Namazu
In Japanese mythology, the Namazu (鯰) is a giant catfish who causes earthquakes. He lives in the mud beneath the earth, and is guarded by the god Kashima who restrains the catfish with a stone. When Kashima lets his guard fall, Namazu thrashes about, causing violent earthquakes. Following an earthquake near Edo (modern day Tokyo) in 1855 (one of the Ansei Great Quakes), the Namazu became worshiped as a yonaoshi daimyojin (god of world rectification).

Wheee, fun. I had actually wanted to draw a muddy kind of scene, but you can see for yourself how well that went XD Also, the fish was meant to be white on it;s belly and then red, Kinda like the Japanese flag. Again, you can see how well that went.
As always, I just drew with no real plan, but I'm pretty certain that 's artwork was in the back of my mind somewhere, even though I had only seen it once a few weeks before.
If you haven't seen her works though, you are missing out on big things. I personally consider her one of (if not the) best artist that I know of (and I'll admit that I don't know many) on DA. Not because she has amazing technical skill, but because of the profound social relevance in her artworks. Go check her out. You won't regret it.

And I now believe that I'm rambling. So I'll just get myself off to bed.

Critiques are most welcome! Especially with regards to colour, and making things fit into a picture!
